Advanced Flight Training Fleet
We have two AFT aircraft that we use regularly for training. The PA-28-161 (G-LORC) is our fixed wing, single engine aircraft. Used for all the single engine training and hour building. For the MEP courses we have the Grumman GA-7 Cougar (G-BLHR) twin engined aircraft. As well as our own fleet AFT have access to the Sherburn Aero Club Fleet of Pa-28 aircraft and their Robin which is used for FI Courses. All of which are looked after and maintained by Sherburn Engineering Limi

Statement from the CAA
Following the referendum on EU membership there will be no immediate change to civil aviation regulation nor the CAA's role in the EU and the European Aviation Safety Agency. Any future changes will depend on the outcome of the UK's negotiations on exiting the EU. We will be working closely with the Department for Transport in assisting the UK Government in the months ahead as discussions progress. http://www.caa.co.uk/News/Statement-on-EU-referendum-vote/ #CAA #EU #EUReferen

The de Havilland Chipmunk
The Chipmunk is AFT's unofficial mascot and belongs to their CFI. Designed by de Havilland (Canada), the Chipmunk was an immediate hit in the UK when, in 1950, it entered service with RAF’s University Air Squadrons. Appropriately Leeds UAS were among the first to convert from the preceding Tiger Moth biplane. Exported to numerous (mostly military) operators around the world, the ‘Chippie’ is rightly regarded as one of the finest primary training aircraft ever conceived. The R

A message from one of our past students
Going from never flying before, to having to find the best route to become a commercial pilot can be extremely daunting. We asked one of our past students how they did it: StartFragmentI currently operate the 737 from the UK to destinations all over Europe for one of Europe's biggest airlines. I conducted all of my training at Advanced Flight Training from Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) to Multi Engine Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL)/Instrument Rating (IR) and Flight Instruct

Pilot's licences

These are known as EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) licences and include the following: Private Pilot's Licence (PPL) Available for aeroplanes and helicopters, the Private Pilot’s Licence is recognised worldwide and can be ‘built on’ with extra ratings and privileges. Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence (LAPL) Available for aeroplanes, helicopters, ballo

Flying Drones
Original article can be found here: http://www.caa.co.uk/Blog-Posts/Guidance-for-flying-drones/ Whether you are flying a drone for fun or profit you must legally keep your device within your 'visual line of sight' at all times. The law is based on the clear premise that if you can't see your drone, you can't control your drone. For guidance we put an actual measurable distance on this 'line of sight' - which is set out very clearly in our Drone Code. How high can you fly? So,

The Start of Summer 2016
We are now into the summer season and this means it is our busy time here at Advanced Flight Training. Our first week with the students of the University of Leeds has been completed and it was a fantastic week; With blue skies and plenty of sunshine our instructors and students have clocked up plenty of flying hours. Many of the students come to AFT to do 10 hours of flying, which is included in their tuition fees, some do stay longer to complete their PPLs and even continue
