Flying Instructor Course - FIC(Restricted)

This course comprises 30 hours of flight training, of which:
25 hours may be dual and 5 hours may be mutual with another FIC student.
125 hours theoretical knowledge instruction comprising:

  • 40 hours tuition.
  • 78 hours teaching practice.
  • 7 hours progress tests.

After this is completed, the FIC student will have to pass a Skill Test with an examiner in order to apply for the FI (A) restricted rating.

Gaining experience and completing further FIC courses can remove the restrictions to this rating and we can conduct these here at AFT.

Course duration:
4 weeks full time.

The pre-entry requirements before starting are:

  • To hold either a valid UK CAA or JAR FCL aeroplanes pilots licence that includes a valid Single Engine Piston (Land) Class rating or single pilot Single Engine Type Rating.
  • Have met the knowledge requirements for the grant of a JAR-FCL Commercial Pilots Licence (Aeroplanes). A PPL holder must have at least 200 hours of flight time on aeroplanes of which 150 hours is PIC or holds at least a CPL.

All licence holders shall have completed the following:

  • At least 30 hours on S/E piston aircraft and at least 5 hours in the six months before the pre-entry flight-test.
  • At least 10 hours Instrument Flight instruction in aeroplanes of which not more than 5 hours may be in an FNPT2 or Flight Simulator.
  • At least 20 hours of cross-country flight as PIC of aeroplanes including a 300-mile long flight with at least 2 full stop landings at 2 different aerodromes from the departure point.
  • Pass a pre-entry flight test by an approved examiner. This test will assess for ability to take the course.
  • Having completed these pre-entry requirements the candidate now has to complete an approved course of both flight and theoretical knowledge instruction training.
